GrailCoat over SIPs

GrailCoat is extremely well-suited for use over Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), as a stucco siding replacement, and as a roof and roof deck coating, solving a number of problems other coatings do not.

  • Waterproofs, yet allows moisture transmission
  • Won't crack
  • Fully warranted (20 years) over OSB and plywood
  • 3 to 4 mm thickness allows for even coverage.
  • Seals openings. Compatible with metal and other materials.
  • Will not fatigue at seams, creating sag or cracking.
  • Grips tight at parapets on flat roofs with no peeling.

A number of panel manufacturers specify GrailCoat as the stucco finish of choice. General Panel Corp used to specify three coatings, but after long term-use, now recommends only GrailCoat for stucco type applications. General also specifies GrailCoat for walking-decks, panel ceilings, and flat roofs, especially parapet-type roofs.

SIPs are an excellent substrate for GrailCoat due to their straightness, stiffness, and continuous OSB surface. The foam lamination to the OSB assures that wind shear does not overly stress the OSB-to-GrailCoat lamination bond. GrailCoat covered plywood structures in California built in the early 1970's are still in fine shape, still without any cracking or crazing, and there is every reason to believe that SIPs covered with GrailCoat will have even better longevity.

Properly installed over SIPs, GrailCoat is fully warranted not to crack, craze, fatigue or delaminate from the substrate for twenty years. If maintained properly, GrailCoat could last forty or fifty years, even in salt air, freeze/thaw, or heavy rain or sun exposure.

The Result

SIPs are an excellent substrate for GrailCoat due to their straightness, stiffness, and continuous OSB surface.
